Amish contraception and sexual education are not topics discussed frequently in the Amish community. Contraception is viewed as wrong and sinful as children are seen as a gift from God. Sexual education is not taught in schools, it is generally expected that all youth wait until marriage before engaging in sexual intercourse.
When looking at Amish marriage, there is a ton of information. Amish people can only marry once they have been baptized, there is no exchanging of rings, the grooms start growing their beard after the wedding, the engagement is kept a secret within the family until it is announced in a Sunday church service by the community bishop. It is normally announced 4-6 weeks before the wedding. it is called "publishing the engagement". Once the engagement is public, the engaged couple must personally hand-deliver the invitations. Weddings take place in either the spring or the fall as to make sure the harvest is over. The bride sews her own wedding dress and the dress has to be blue in strict Amish communities, but some allow the bride to pick her own. Most dresses are different shades of blue or purple. the Bride's wedding outfit will become her Sunday church attire after she is married. An Amish woman has to be buried in her wedding dress, cape, and apron when she dies. Since sometimes Amish weddings are used as match making between teenagers over the age of 16, the teenagers are assigned specific seats before the evening meal in order to bring them closer together. Newlywed couples' honeymoon is generally spent visiting all of their relatives on the weekends. This is where most of the wedding gifts are collected.
